Heidi was a very healthy 34 year old woman expecting her first baby in November of 2008. On November 7th Heidi checked into the hospital with Labor pains, once they did the lab work, they realized how bad it was and deciided to go ahead and do a C-Section. Abby was born a healthy 7lb 3 oz baby girl. We got to go into to see Heidi around 4:00 PM but were told not to excite Heidi as they were trying to keep the blood pressure under control. At 7:30 they put Heidi in the ICU to observe her for 24 hrs. On November 9th Heidi suffered a seizure was vented, and then rushed to surgery to try and stop the bleeding. On November 13th we had Heidi airlifted to anothe Hospital that was bigger and better equipped.  Heidi never woke up and on December 6 2008 our beautiful Daughter passed away in my arms. We miss her so much!! We had never heard of Preeclampsia or HELLP before this.

Cindi,    I was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia & HELLP Syndrome at 35 weeks and delivered my now 14 week old with little complications. The first time that I had ever even heard of preeclampsia was at about month five of my pregnancy. Having delivered so easily and seeing my blood pressure go back to normal after four days, I guess that I assumed that preeclampsia really wasn't that big of a deal. Then I read your story. I am sitting here crying thinking about your loss of Heidi and I now realize that preeclampsia IS a big deal.  And that I am very fortunate. Thanks for sharing Heidi's story. You have inspired me to act. I am going to run a marathon in Heidi's honor and will fundraise to be able to make a donation to the Preeclampsia Foundation. I am so grateful to be able to sit here and gaze into my son's eyes... something that Heidi doesn't get to do. Maybe my small token will help with reasearch so that doctors can begin to understand this better. Thanks again for sharing.
