My experience of Severe Preeclampsia (1st pregnancy)

Posted On Monday, April 30, 2012  by Kaylee

In September 2008 I had my daughter via emergency c section at 26 weeks due to severe preeclampsia. She weighed 1 lb 9 oz. Her first month of her life was spent in the local hospital and she became severely sick from NEC and was transferred to a children's hospital an hour away where she spent the remainder of her NICU stay for 3 months. She is now 3 years old and is healthy as can be. I am so thankful that she is. It all started around 24 weeks when I was becoming swelled up in my face and ankles, but with it being my first pregnancy I thought it was normal. Then I started to get headaches that were becoming so bad. I went to L&D at 25 weeks and was admitted for 5 days because of my blood pressure and told me I developed preeclampsia. They sent me home with out any medications. Two days later I returned and had my daughter the same day, I was 26 weeks. I had then developed severe preeclampsia. It was a scary experience and nervous on what would happen next pregnancy.
