beautiful baby boy

Posted On Monday, December 10, 2012 By charmaine

Hello- many people don't know much about pre-eclampsia; I didn't until I had it. This is my story. My name is Charmaine Dawkins and I was 17 and he was 22 when we started trying for are first baby together. I am very mature for my age and we decided we were ready. I fell pregnant first time trying. I was shocked because it can take months, but then I realized there was a beautiful baby growing inside of me and we were so happy. Our family and friends were filled with joy as they could see we were so happy.I had horrible morning sickness day and night: I would not be able to keep anything down, but I dealt with it. We had all the normal scans and everything was perfect. On my... Read More

pregnant again

Posted On Monday, December 03, 2012 By sharon

I suffered from preeclampsia and was officially diagnosed with it at 33 weeks, was concerned about it as midwifes picked up high blood pressure and protein in urine at 28weeks. At second check-up, blood pressure was still high and they decided to send me for blood tests. My gynecologist said I should consider a c-section and natural birth may no longer be an option. When I was 32 weeks was sent to hospital to have steroid injections and had my urine monitored; was released the following day. A week later at check-up, we realiszed baby wasn't growing and my doctor said I would have to have to have a c-section the following day. I had another steroid injection: this was to help my... Found Dead

Posted On Friday, November 16, 2012 By lisa

On Wednesday, November 7, 2012, I found my Daughter-in-law dead - just sitting on the toilet.  The autopsy revealed she died from preeclampsia and our sweet baby Jack at 34 weeks gestation died when his mother's heart stopped beating.  She had been in the hospital 3 times in two weeks for abdominal pain, swelling and headaches and was on bedrest at the time of her death.  She had been to the doctor just the day before and had lost 2 pounds, was feeling great, her swelling was greatly diminished and her blood pressure 142/90 - she was always compliant with diet and bedrest restrictions and took her blood pressure every two hours. This was her first pregnancy.  I cannot... Read More

Growing up in a community where teen pregnancy was very common, my high school did a lot to keep us from wanting kids at a young age. They would assign babies with computer chips that needed to be fed n changed at all hours day or night, they would show us videos of live births and tell us how hard life would be with a child at such a young age.  The live birth videos alone were enough to scare me through my teenage years, my 20's and even a bit of my 30's but at 32 I was expecting. My parents had not had a grandchild in 13 years, and it would be a first for my in-laws! It was surreal, I was excited, nervous and any other emotion you can imagine. April 22, I arranged for my family... Read More

A survivor of Preeclampsia

Posted On Friday, November 16, 2012 By mahjooba

I consider myself a survivor of this disorder. During my first pregnancy, I didn't even know what preeclampsia was. My doctor hadn't even discussed it with me. Even when I was sent to the hospital due to very high levels of protein in my urine at 39 week, no one mentioned preeclampsia to me. As a result, my son was born only four pounds, and I didn't have a clue to what had caused him to be so small. I had done my part with everything right (I could have died from preeclampsia. I wish my gynecologist had told me. Perhaps he wasn't familiar with it either). With my second pregnancy, twins, I decided to research my son's low birth weight, the high blood pressure, water... HELLP STORY

Posted On Monday, November 12, 2012 By Krys

Hi everyone!! I've been on this website reading many sad/encouraging stories since 6/17/12... two days after my precious baby girl was born. Some background- I have an healthy 8 year old; no complications during pregnancy. I have a healthy 2 year old; no complications with that pregnancy either. Third pregnancy, I noticed different things that I'd never experienced before. Went to prenatal checkup's blood pressure ran in 130's over 80's. The doctor that delivered my first two was not my doctor for my third pregnancy. I worked for an OB/GYN and decided to let him deliver my 3rd. Well he was deployed to Afghanistan (reserves) so during my second trimester there was a... Read More

Hello my name is Amber. I am 23 years old. I already know a pain most parents don't have to feel. I had to bury my son before he even got a chance to live. He was 29 weeks when I found out he no longer had a heartbeat. I went for an appointment on a Wednesday and had told my doctor I had severe swelling in my hands; it didn't go away, and that they went numb when I slept every night several times a night. I also told her about flashing lights I saw if I turned my head a certain way. On that Wednesday, I also had high blood pressure and proteinuria, the biggest signs for preeclampsia. They sent me home with a bunch of tests to do and follow up with a doctor in 1 week.... Read More

my preclampsia experience...

Posted On Monday, November 05, 2012 By lisa

I woke up on the 19th of April feeling good with the usual pregnancy aches and pains. I was booked into the local doctors for a routine check up that afternoon. I went to the doctors, where she took my blood pressure and a urine sample. She looked worried and asked if I had transport to the hospital. I told her I did; she told me to go straight to the hospital where I was admitted through A&E. After a short wait, I was landed in a wheel chair headed for the maternity ward... Nurses and doctors ran around me doing tests and traces on my baby. Soon after I was sent for a scan, where I was told my baby was a little small for its gestation. The doctor then came in and... preeclampsia...what ?

Posted On Thursday, November 01, 2012 By Katie

I became pregnant in late April 2010; throughout my entire pregnancy I was sick. Morning sickness was horrible, I was throwing up just about every morning. I went to all my normal prenatal visits and of course had to pee in a cup to check all my levels. A few times the nurse told me I had too much protein in my urine and told me to make sure I drank plenty of water and eat healthy. How can you always eat healthy with all those pregnancy cravings?! In September of 2010 I switched doctors due to a change of insurance and also because I didn't care for the doctors I was seeing. I had found out I was having a girl and couldn't be more excited!! I had met and loved my new doctor.... Read More

Preeclampsia and prematurity force difficult separation

Posted On Thursday, November 01, 2012 By Jennifer

Prior to the birth of my second son, I was aware of prematurity in a general sense. I knew what the word meant. I knew a few friends, family members, and acquaintances who had dealt with the early arrival of an infant. To me, prematurity meant a baby who was probably no more than a month early and who might be slightly smaller than the 6 to 8 pound newborns that I was used to seeing. Prior to the birth of my second son, I was even less aware of preeclampsia. I had heard the word before and even knew of a case or two. I looked it up in my pregnancy book out of curiosity and dismissed it almost immediately. Blood pressure had never been a problem for me before and seizures were... Read More

Hannah's Story

Posted On Monday, October 29, 2012 By Suzanne

I lived in Mississippi at the time of my first pregnancy. I had an OB right out of med school, and by the time I went to my regular appointment at 26 weeks, he didn't play around. He said I had severe preeclampsia, and said he witnessed two women who died of PE during his residency and it wasn't going to happen to me. He put me in an ambulance to Mobile, Alabama, and said that the hospital I was headed to was amazing and they would take great care of my unborn daughter and me. He was right. I owe the staff at the hospital everything for saving my life and the life of my daughter. I was so very sick that my parents and husband were told that the baby and I may... Read More

31 Weeks/28 Weeks

Posted On Tuesday, October 23, 2012 By LaTonya

I have 2 children the 1st I delivered in March of 2004 at 31 weeks with having eclampsia. I never knew of the term and it came out of nowhere, with severe headaches and a seizure. I delivered a healthy 3 lbs 8 oz boy and he was in the hospital from March 18th till April 20th. Now it's 8 yrs down the line and I end up getting preeclampsia again, even though I knew the symptoms I never thought it would get to eclampsia. Blood pressure was through the roof high and the docs found protein in my urine. The docs got it to settle down but it crept back up on me again and I gain 5 lbs overnight, while still in the hospital. Nevertheless I delivered a 2 lb 9 oz at 28 weeks and I'm patiently... Experienced Preeclampsia

Posted On Friday, October 19, 2012 By Gia

I struggled with getting pregnant with our first child.  We had started trying after I had been on the pill for about 7 years, and finally went off, tried and tried to get pregnant.  Was referred to the fertility clinic to see as to why I was not getting pregnant.  Both my husband and I were tested for any infertility concerns, I was not ovulating they were unsure why.  Therefore we went ahead with having the procedure done for IUI.  I found out I was pregnant about 3 weeks later via blood test.  We were thrilled and beyond excited to be expecting.  As time went on, I was extremely ill throughout my entire pregnancy, never kept anything down, throwing up all day and... Lucky baby girl

Posted On Monday, October 15, 2012 By Megan

My name is Megan. I was 21 when I had my baby girl. She was due in March and pregnancy was going great. When I was 30 weeks along I noticed swelling, but thought it was just part of being pregnant. My checkup came and I was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome. That very day I was admitted to the hospital because my blood pressure was high. They checked my urine and the next day my doctor came to see me. She said my protein count was high, but if I stayed on complete bed rest, I could go home along with my prescription of blood pressure medicine and very low sodium diet. So I went home and did everything I was told. A couple days later, I felt bad and decided to check my... Read More

I am also an Eclampsia survivor and would like to join an organisation that will help spread awareness of this disease.I'm in Botswana and a new mom to a 3 month old adorable girl, Netaniah Jeslyn Lebogang (Tswana for give thanks to the Lord). My case was quiet severe as I was still pregnant when it occurred. When I reached 36 weeks, my gynecologist removed the McDonald’s stitch he had put on me @ 16 weeks. 3 days later, I woke up with this headache I have never experienced b4 in my life. My mother asked me to call my brother to come and take me to the hospital but upon picking up the phone... Read More

lost my baby due to PET at 26 weeks

Posted On Saturday, October 06, 2012 By Rama

Dunno where to start from. This was our first baby, and we were both excited and happy. At week 20, the doctor came to say that my OS was incompetent, so he put stitches and I was on complete bed rest. By then I had some swelling in my hands and puffiness of the face (esp nose). Rest all things were normal. Even the thyroid test was normal. At week 26, when I went to the doctor for a routine check, he found my face swollen, but no swelling in my legs and no protein in urine. My BP was 110/80. Baby was doing very well and I could feel every activity in my womb. The doctor just told me to get my BP checked after 2 days. After 2 days my BP went as high as 160/100. So he...
