On January 31, 1998 I was hospitalized for hypertension, I was approximately 27 weeks pregnant. I was given medication while in the hospital to maintain a somewhat normal blood pressure while receiving steroid shots to help better develop by son's lungs. I remained in the hospital until my son was on February 23, 1998 (10 weeks premature). Thankfully, my son was born without any major difficulties. Unexpectedly, he did not need to have any oxygen, he was breathing on his own, but he mained in an incubator until I was able to bring in home on March 29, 1998. We brought him home on a monitor to monitor his breathing and heart. 4 years later I have a healthy son who brings nothing but joy to my life. I feel so fortunate to have been one of the lucky ones to have survived this often fatal disorder and to be able to show a baby who also survived this ordeal.
