Children truly are a gift from God. After reading the stories on this website, I know that if it were not for the grace of God and many Christian people praying, I might not have my precious little girl. Eva Callie was born on October 21, 2005 at 36 ½ weeks gestation. She weighed 5 lbs. 11 oz. and was perfectly healthy. I would like to share my story of preeclampsia as a testimony that God still works miracles.
During my seventh month of pregnancy, I went to the doctor for swelling of the hands and face. My feet had been swelling for some time, but I thought that was normal. My doctor was not available, so I saw her nurse practitioner. He looked at the amount of weight I had gained (ten pounds in one week) and said that I needed to watch what I ate more carefully. He was not really concerned about the swelling because my blood pressure was fine and there was no protein in my urine. As the next few weeks went on, I began to feel sluggish. I thought this was normal and did not want to complain. I had felt great my whole pregnancy up until then. I continued to work and do my usual activities. I tried to walk about thirty minutes each day in an attempt to keep my now rapidly rising weight down. I went to the doctor on September 12 for a routine appointment and my blood pressure was moderately high (135/80). The doctor was concerned and put me on weekly office visits. The next week when I went in, my blood pressure was still rising and there was protein in my urine. The doctor told me to slow down and take it easy. She wanted me to stop working. I did not realize that my condition was affecting the baby. I thought it was only making me feel bad. My doctor did not know enough about preeclampsia to fully impress on me how important it was that slowed down my activities. At my doctor |
