When I was 28 weeks pregnant, I read in one of my pregnancy-by-the-week books that basically there is no hope for a premature baby born prior to 28 weeks, and then at 28 weeks the chances of survival are weak. With all of the books, and magazines, and literature from my doctors that I sifted through during my pregnancy, this was the only discussion of prematurity that I ever came across. Several days later I went to my prenatal appointment and was sent to the hospital for evaluation because my blood pressure and the protein in my urine were so high.
