I just found this site. Fifteen years ago I was having what I thought was a normal first pregnancy. Of course, I remember thinking in early November that I was so tired I couldn't make it to Thanksgiving, and the baby was due in January. But I thought that was normal; I had a rigorous job as an attorney for a large corporation, and didn't feel I could ask for any concessions in my work load. At 28 weeks (November 10)I went for a routine exam, having moved and found a new doctor. While his partner for the previous visit assured me everything was fine, this doctor took one look at me and said, "So, are you five months pregnant?" My husband and I looked at each other, and I... I'm not the best pregnant lady. If I had any doubts about that, I'm certain now. My first pregnancy was a happy surprise, and our tip-off was the morning sickness that began before my first positive pregnancy test. I worked in the Women's clinic where I received my health care, and my co-workers had a certain glee when I'd have to drop the phone and bolt for the bathroom. "The joys of pregnancy" they'd call after me. The nausea persisted until about 25 weeks, and I had five dream weeks until the swelling started. I had lost 25 lbs with the hyperemesis, and suddenly, it all came back. About 25 lbs in three weeks. The nurse midwife I saw became alarmed at the weight gain, she said that... Read More

Until I found this page I didn't realize how truly lucky I was when I had my son this past April. In fact now after reading a few stories it scares me to think what could have happened. My son was due May 4th, 2003and up until the week that he was born I had what I was told and considered as well to be a "Normal" pregnancy. I had swelling in my feet and my hands, persistant headaches and a feeling of just not feeling well at all. My doctor assured me it was all apart of being pregnant and that the stress I had been under was making everything seem worse. See my husband had re-enlisted in the Army December 2002 and was sent off to Korea for a year. He left in mid-January, when I... Read More

It was my third pregnancy and I was carrying twins. I was extremely sick. I could not eat, cook, or smell any food without getting sick. I could not change a wet diaper on my 2 year old much less any thing else. I lost 12 pounds and was still 2 pounds lighter at delivery than I was when I became pregnant. At 12 weeks I woke up with blood pouring out of me. I went to the OB office thinking that I had lost the babies and wondering why God gave them to me just to take them away before I even got to meet them. What had I done to deserve this. When I arrived at the OB office and they administered a sonogram the babies were fine,I was fine there was not a single problem. Little did I... Read More

The majority of my story is taken from bits and pieces (I believe to be accurate) that different people have told me about what happened to me. My husband was there by my side beginning with my second seizure and never left my side until several days after I was released from MCV Hospital. I have not asked him to fill in ALL of the blanks yet because I dont want to ask him to relive it all againt. It has been 7 months but still on our minds every day. This is how it was told to me. I realize that it is a long story, but I truly believe that EVERY aspect and detail of it should be included for any of you that need or want to know more about ECLAMPSIA& not pre-eclampsia. I had no signs of... Read More

I can't tell you how the desease kill both, my sister and my niece. Its too fast, now My life is full of regrets, why she has to go so soon. There was no special sign, last Tuesday, she said that she had headeache, its 130/100, and the doctor said that she had to go to bed. And all the pain she felt it, just I realized when I read this web. I can't tell no more, its to hurts me and my family especially her husband. I'm writing the story, its make me remain how sick she is. I dont wanna to remember it. I'm angry with her doctor, but she's gone now. Is wrong to angry with him? Maybe girls who decided to pregnant has to ask the doctor detail about all about the risk. And the... Read More

A week after my 40th birthday, I was quite surprised to learn that I was pregnant. I have a 16 year old daughter and was pregnant twice after her, in 1990 and 1991. Both of those pregnancies ended in a miscarriage after 12 weeks, both blighted ovums. Each of my pregnancies were incredibly difficult. I was terribly sick, vomiting on a daily basis through the 36 weeks with my first pregnancy until I prematurely delivered. The second and third pregnancy were very similar, sickness and little to no weight gain. My fourth pregnancy I prayed would be different. I longed to be one of those 'glowing' pregnant gals. During the first few weeks of my 4th pregnancy, I suffered from vertigo. ... Read More

I was only 24 weeks, due Nov 24,2004. This was my third pregnancy but my other two pregnancies ended in miscarriage. We were so scared that we would lose this baby too. Every week was another milestone for us. Once I passed 14 weeks (the furthest along I had ever been) we were still very scared but also releived. We were actually starting to let ourselves get excited for our little bundle to arrive. My Doctor's visits were normal and happily uneventful. Everything looked to be right on track. I had no warning signs at all. My ankles were a little swollen thats it. I was gaining about a pound or 2 a week. I woke up to pee at 2am on August 18th. While in the bathroom, I started... It all started when i found out i was pregnant sept 2003 i was very scared because i wasn't sure i was ready to have a baby, but with the support of my friends and family my boyfriend and i decided to have this baby. I started going to my prenatal appointment right away and regularly. I decided to have a mid-wifw instead of a doctor to have a more personal relationship with some who might be delivering my baby. Through out my frist and second trimester everything was going great. During my third trimester i was getting very anxious for this baby to come out already. Three days prior to my due date my mother decides she wan't me with her at all times so i walked alot and was out all the... Read More

The doctor kept on sending me to the hospital to monitor my baby and my blood pressure, also to do a 24 hr. urine analysis. Finally, one night my mother and I went to my lamaze class. I had to leave early. I was experiencing dizziness and spots before my eyes. I was admitted to the hospital. I had protein in my urine. They warned me that I was going to be in the hospital until I went into labor. The next morning I was into seizures. They did a emergency c-section. My baby was admitted to the NICU for 8 days At 2 months old, we call her our miracle baby.

I had preeclampsia and toxcemia 3 years ago. My doctor didn't catch it at first. It took the doctor 2 months to realize that's what was wrong. I had awful fluid swelling, high blood pressure and dizziness and headache. Thank to the Lord above that my child and I pulled through. Since I've had my child I've had problems with my stomach which consist of upset stomach, diarreah, nausea, fatigue, tiredness, and sometimes it feels like there's a knot in my throat. I've been to doctors who told me that I have acid reflux, but I'm just not sure. Has anyone else experienced the same?

I am a survivor of pre eclampsia twice. I got real sick when I was 26 weeks pregnet and delivered that same day. Four years later I got sick agian and I knew what was happening. I told my doctor who refused to believe me sure enough my blood pressure was up and I delivered a 27 weeker. I tied my tubes and will not go through that agian. My heart goes out to all the families who are not as lucky as I was with my babies. Both my girls survied and are 10 and 6 now.

Back in early 2000 I was almost 34 weeks into my first pregnancy and eagerly awaiting my baby's due date of 2nd April. I went for a routine check up at my GPs and the midwife seemed concerned about my elevated Blood Pressure and sent me off to hospital for closer monitoring. My BP at that point was ?/108 and rising. I was kept in overnight and made such a fuss about this unexpected stay that once my BP had settled they (reluctantly) let me home. This was on the condition that I came in the follwing day for monitoring and to start a 24 hour urine collection. Two days later I returned the sample and started a course of Atenelol to lower my BP - I do not know what the sample results were.... Read More

It has taken me a long time to share my story. I feel that the trauma and heartache I have suffered will never be gone, but is now something that I am better able to manage now that I am 3 years into my grief. Here is my story... I had a difficult pregnacy. It was my first. I had terrible morning sickness. I also had my AFP test come back very high. I had an emergency level 2 sonogram and amnio. Everything was ok with the baby. At 24 weeks pregnant, I was enjoying a vacation in Florida from the New York winter. Upon arriving in Florida, I was fine. But by the end of my week's vacation I was much bigger with swollen feet. By the time I arrived home my hands and face were very swollen... Read More

Where do I start? At my 30 wk appt everything was fine, smooth sailing with a bit of swelling. 2 weeks later I visit the OBGYN my bp is 170/102, +4 protein in my urine and had gained 7lbs. I had a nagging headache all week but just a little one. I thought it was a usual pregnany symptom. My eyes felt puffy and things were a little blurry, I just thought it was do to lack of sleep. When the doctor told me what was going on I started seeing spots. Of course that kind of news made my bp go up even further. I was sent directly to the hospital. Fortunately my husband had decided to come with me to this appt. The nurse took me to the peri on call (Dr. Love) and a complete us wa done. Baby... Read More

About two weeks before I lost my baby, I went to my doctor explaining that I thought I had preeclampsia, I had all the symptoms but not enough of a degree for her to make any actions, she looked at my blood pressure, only a little above normal, she looked at my swelling, said it was normal to swell, she didn't even touch on the fact that I had a headache, blurred vision, and protien in my urine, she told me I didn't have it and sent me away, fast forward two weeks. I'm at my second ultrasound. Good strong heartbeat, a little small, but healthy. Then I went to my follow-up visit. They checked my blood pressure and about a half an hour later decided I needed to be airvaced to Phoenix. ... Read More

October 28, 2002 I crawled into bed for the night. I kept seeing spots in front of me, but thought it was just a symptom of pregnancy. My head throbbed and I was sick to my stomach. Maybe the flu? I finally fell to sleep, but kept waking up from the headache. I wasn't due for 5 more weeks. The next morning, October 29, I woke up with the same headache I went to bed with. I called my doctor and spoke with the nurse and she told me to take some Extra-Strength Tylenol, drink lots of water, and lay down on my left side. I did that, but the headache still would not go away. I never experienced anything like this before. Then all the sudden, I felt like I might have urinated myself. ... Read More
