I was 34 weeks and 4 days pregnant when I went to one of my doctor's appointments. I had felt really bad the weekend prior to this Monday appointment. I couldn't put my finger on what was wrong, but I didn't think my health or my baby's health was in any danger. I felt like I weighed a million pounds and I had no energy. I just chalked it up to what I thought was what the last trimester would feel like. (this was my first pregnancy).
At the doctor's office, to my surprise, I had gained 12 ...

I started developing preeclamsia at the beginning of my 3rd trimester during my first pregnancy with my son.
The doctor came in at the beginning of the 3rd tri and told me that I had had a small amount of protein in my urine and my blood pressure was elevated but not high. He said that it was not a lot but we would see what the next sample showed. I did not have any more protein show up nor did I have elevated blood pressure until my last appointment before having my son.
This last appoin...

In my previous entry I did not mention my beautiful daughter. Her name was Ezmeralda Destiny Bateast. she was was so beautiful. She looked like a little angel. She looked just like her daddy. I was put to sleep when I had my c-section, so I did not know she did not make it until I woke up. I could not cry because I knew she was with God. It is now 10 months later and I can cry now. I feel her loss all the time and wish to God she was with me. I will always have her in my heart and she w...

Hello,
I had just turned 5 months when my body started to swell. I thought it was normal. When i asked my doctor, he said it was fine and there was nothing to worry about. Then about 3wks later, I got a real horrible headache that lasted a week. When I told my doctor about it, he said that it was normal. Later that night I was admitted into the hospital for Preeclampsia. My blood pressure was 220/110. I also had this unbareable pain in my chest. My head felt like it was going to e...

My pregnancy was great. Very little sickness and no complications, until......33 weeks. I went to my doctor for a checkup due to excessive swelling, weight gain, and overall feeling of something wrong, which began in my 32nd week. After taking my BP and urine, I was sent home on bedrest and ordered to complete a 24 hour urine test. I went back 2 days later for the results.
The doctor told me that protein was in my urine and I needed to go directly to the hospital. I didnt know what to do....

Everything was going fine with my pregnancy. My daughter was due on 12/25/02 and I went in for an appointment with my midwife on 12/18. She was worried because my belly was measuring small. Up until then, she had always told me that I was measuring a little small, but growing consistently. She thought my baby was going to be around 7lbs. But this day, she acted concerned and set me up to have an ultrasound ASAP. Of course, they couldn't get me in until the next morning, so I had to go home, wait...

I looked at my pregnancy test about five million times, just to make sure I was really pregnant. I couldnt believe it it happened so fast. As my husband says boy, I guess this baby making thing really works. Two years into our marriage and we were expecting our first child together. We were thrilled!
I had a wonderful and normal pregnancy in the beginning. No morning sickness, no aches and pains I loved it. In November I went in for my normal check-up and my blood pressure was 13...

I was only 19 years old when I had my first child (Kevin). The first 18 weeks of my pregnancy went without any problems. Kevin was growning fine and I was feeling good.
My doctor and I started to notice my tummy wasn't getting any bigger and Kevin stopped growning at 21 weeks. My doctor wanted to keep a close eye on me because he also noticed some protein in my urine. I had appoinments with him every week.
After my doctor realized what was going on, he sent me to San Jose Ca. to see a mo...

At 36 weeks I went in for my check-up, which were going to be once a week from that point on. At the end of my visit, my doctor said, "You might be preeclamptic. If you are, we'll be inducing you. We'll let you know next week." I had no idea what that meant, and my mind was racing at the thought of the baby being here in a week. I went into labor on my own 3 days later. Xander was healthy, although a little underweight. At 6 weeks, on January 20, 2002 Xander died of SIDS. My boyfriend and...

Until I found this page I didn't realize how truly lucky I was when I had my son this past April. In fact now after reading a few stories it scares me to think what could have happened.
My son was due May 4th, 2003and up until the week that he was born I had what I was told and considered as well to be a "Normal" pregnancy. I had swelling in my feet and my hands, persistant headaches and a feeling of just not feeling well at all. My doctor assured me it was all apart of being pregnant and ...

The majority of my story is taken from bits and pieces (I believe to be accurate) that different people have told me about what happened to me. My husband was there by my side beginning with my second seizure and never left my side until several days after I was released from MCV Hospital. I have not asked him to fill in ALL of the blanks yet because I dont want to ask him to relive it all againt. It has been 7 months but still on our minds every day. This is how it was told to me. I realize ...

I went into labor exactly one week to the day of my due date. I had been to the doctor that day, and at eleven o'clock that evening, contractions began. I could not tell you how often or how far apart they were. My sister could though. While my husband slept upstairs, thinking he would be going to work the next day, my sister cared for me. Finally, at five in the morning on January 17, I had had enough. I called my OB and told him I was on my way. My husband got out of bed and helped me i...

While pregnant with my first child I began swelling at 28 weeks. I began having elevated blood pressure and was told to come in twice a week to have it checked by my nurse. At 31 weeks I came in on a Thursday and back on a Tuesday and had gained 11 pounds. I began to have signs of protein in my urine and showed postive for blood. All the while my blood pressure continued to climb. At 32 weeks exactly I came in for a check-up only to discover my BP had risen to 160/98. I also had +3 protein...

Hi all!! Well, I don't know how to start, so I will just start! My son Adam was born by emergency c-section June 14, 2003. I woke up early that morning to be sick to my stomach, with bad stomach and back aches. I thought I had food poisoning, I had taco bell the night before. So 3 hours of sickness,I went to the hospital. After they finally figured out what was wrong and seeing the babys heartbeat go from 192 down to 109. It kept going up and down to show distress. So they prepped me for surgery...

My husband, Tim, and I had been trying to conceive for more than six months with no luck. We decided to stop trying for a while. Of course, that is when we finally got pregnant. In October 2002, we found out that we were expecting a baby due June 28, 2003. I had quite a bit of trouble with morning sickness during the first trimester, even spending a night in the hospital for dehydration. Even during all the morning sickness, we were so excited. Once the morning sickness was gone, we spent ...

At 33 weeks, my regular OB noticed that my swelling and weight gain were excessive. He ordered a 12 hour test for protein in my urine. There were astronomical amounts of protein leaking into my urine. I was monitored with daily NSTs for two weeks, and everything looked stable besides the protein in my urine. All my bloodwork was good. At 34 and half weeks, an ultrasound indicated that everything was fine with my son. He was 6 lbs 8 ounces already!
Within a matter of days after that first ultr...

I am 36 years old and I wish the internet was available when I gave birth to my 1st son. His name is Gene and he is now almost 17 years old. I am 4 months pregnant right now(June 2003). I gave birth to Gene in August of 1986 and it was a trauma for me. I had full-blown ecclampsia with, abruptio placentae, and HELLP. My son was perfectly healthy and never once experienced fetal distress during the whole episode.
I was only 20 years old and received regular per-natal visits all along. ...
