I had Hellp in August, 2002. I had a normal, healthy
pregancy all along. But at about 33 weeks, I began
feeling indigestion, fatigue, and back pain- all
normal end of pregnancy feelings, I assumed. I also
had nosebleeds and bleeding gums. When I began to
feel flu like symptoms, I called to ask for bloodword
to be done. My father had been hospitalized at the
time, and I assumed that I had caught something while
visiting him. (I have since learned to assume
nothing!!!) I we...

I found out I was pregnant with our son, Ian Michael on
January 26, 2003. I remember my shock - we weren't
married, and weren't trying, but at almost 35 years
old, I felt like God had given me the greatest miracle
of my life. Throughout the pregnancy, I felt great. No
morning sickness, very little weight gain, and I
positively glowed. At the beginning of the sixth month,
I went to bed one night with mild discomfort. I thought
Ian was just wedged in an awkward position and would

I became pregnant with my second son at the age of 23. I was under the care of a GP. I began to experience weight gain and sudden, severe abdominal pain in the fourth month of pregnancy. After testing, (ultrasounds)it was found that my son was fine with normal development and appropriate amount of amniotic fluid. My pain was possibly from pain or things "stretching". I was placed on a pain medication that was "safe" for me and my baby.
By the sixth month I began to feel really bad, I had gaine...

The first time I really learned about Preeclampsia
was with my sister and the birth of her preemie
son less than a year ago. I never thought that it
would happen to me but for my entire pregnancy, I
kept it in the back of my mind (and so did my OB/
GYN who had also treated my sister.) The night
before my 31st week visit, I packed my bag - I
would either need it since it would be about the
same time that my sister was admitted to the
hospital for PE or I would just be prepared ...

In 1993, I delivered my first child by emergency c-section after 14 hours of induced labor. I was 30 years of age and had been monitored for preeclampsia during most of my second and third trimester. It was a difficult ordeal for I truly thought I was going to die. All I could think about was saving my baby's life. Fortunatley, all went well afterwards and we went home on schedule. As the years have progressed, my first born, my son Kevin, has been diagnosed with hypotonia (low muscle tone) and...

Hi... My name is Roukieh and I am the child of a mother who had preeclampsia. I was born on July 30, 1986. My mom, Kathy, tells me the story of how complicated her pregnancy with me was. I love to hear it over and over again because at the end, she tells me that i am her "miracle" child. I am now 17 years old with a brother 13, and a sister 15. I was born at a hospital in Century City, weighing only 4 lbs 10 oz. i see other stories and i feel as if i was a big baby compared to them, but compared...

My daughter turns 1 today.
Emma Leslie Fordyce crawls around our house and tugs on
anything in reach to pull herself up. She's ready to walk. Any
minute now.
She loves to point and yell, "Ca! Ca!" to get...

The day I found out I was pregnant, I couldnt believe it. Jess kept telling me to take more pregnancy tests, and I did. I think we took about 12 total. Three days later, I had my first doctors appointment with Dr. Reue. He said all looked good and asked if I was nauseated at all. Well, that morning on the way to the appointment, I did fell a little sick, but carsick nauseated, nothing too bad. And, the doc said it was a good sign that I was a little nauseated.
A week later, Jess had...

Despite being 26, slim, healthy and taking care of myself during my pregnancy I seemed to have one condition after another, all of which related to my circulation. I bled in the first month, had raised blood pressure on a couple of occasions, varicose veins, phlebitis. I gave up work at 34 weeks and started to feel much better. On the morning of my 35 week antenatal appt I was feeling really well, but when the doctor took my routine blood pressure, he informed me that I needed to go to the ho...

What a lifeline this website has turned out to be. We've just found out that we're pg with our second child and I'm terrified that PE will strike again.
I wish I could say I had a breezy pregnancy the first time around but from the head cold I had when we got the positive test and then the immediate morning sickness (morning what a joke...I was sick from the moment I woke up to the moment I went to sleep for 26 weeks) and then to be hit with PE I think I did it pretty tough...and here we are....

When I was 29 I had pre-eclampsia and along with other complication my first child was delivered at 30 weeks. My second pregnancy when I was 34 was pre-eclampsic but not until week 37 so I was hospitalized for 10 days and then delivered by c section.
I am now 42 my Non-pregnancy BP is now 130/90. I also have Poly sistic Ovaries and my mother has severe hypertension. My previous pregnancy was assisted reproduction and we were told then that we would not be able to conceive due to my...

My daughter Abby was born on March 7, 2002 and the two of us were discharged the next day with a clean bill of health. I noticed my legs and hands seemed pretty swollen but the nurses assured me that it was normal and would go away on it's own.
For the next few days I felt ok - a little tired and sore although I was sure that was all normal. I was still puffy and swollen and none of my clothes - not even my biggest maternity would fit. I went to church on Sunday morning and felt horrible b...

I was enjoying my "text-book" pregnancy with all regular visits normal. The last 6 weeks of my pregnancy I gained 20 pounds and had severe pitting edema. I had blood pressure of 110/60-70 at all Dr. visits. The day before I was due my water broke, and I was excited that I was about to meet my baby. I was in the triage of the L&D at the hospital when the nurse asked if I had had BP problems during pregnancy, because I was definately having them now. I was told to lay on my left side and was take...

Even though my son's birth was almost 19 years ago, I remember it like it was yesterday. I had a textbook pregnancy until the last month. During that month, I never swelled up but my hands would hurt so bad when I woke up that I could not turn a doorknob without using both hands to wrap my fingers around the knob. I didn't have headaches, just a "little" protein in my urine according to my ob/gyn. My son was also breech.
I was 12 days late when I went into labor. Once labor started, I kn...

When I discovered this web site I cried, from anger, pity, and most of all relief of not feeling alone. I must be the 10 percent of all the mothers I Know that had preeclampsia, so I felt really alone when it happened. What really made me angry was that before I had my Lucas I had never heard about preeclampsia, never a word, not in the preparatory classes, not from my gynecologist, not in magazines. Well, I had a cesarean section in my 34 week, and we are both fine now, two months and a half la...

I was 21 yrs. old and didn't find out I was pregnant until I was about 4 months along. I had always known that I wanted to have a family one day, so I was excited and looking forward to having a baby. On Nov. 4th I had went to my reg. check-up and everything was fine, as it had been thus far. Probably within maybe a week and a half I started swelling a little. I knew that this was normal during pregnancy, so I tried not to worry. I kept mentioning to my mother over the next few days that it...
