My orginal due date for my first child was Dec 12, 2000. It was late Sunday evening, October 22, that I first noticed that my baby was not moving. I told my husband that if I did not feel him move before the morning I would like for him to take me to the OB's office before we went to work. Monday morning arrived with still no movement. We went into my OB's office and were immediatly sent across the street to the hospital before we even saw the doctor. When I arrived in them ... Read more

My experience with HELLP syndrome(pre-eclampsia).On June 25, 2002 I lost my baby girl Natalie Grace Knippling because of HELLP syndrome. I was 26 weeks pregnant. The week and a half before I lost my daughter I was put on bed rest for high blood pressure and swelling in my hands and feet. For a week I did nothing but stay in bed, the swelling seemed to go down in my hand and feet. I thought that was a good sign. But after 7 days on bed rest I got very bad heartburn, so bad I couldn't lay ... Read more

My experience with eclampsia has left me scared about being pregnant. I delivered my 1st baby at 34 weeks, she was 3 pounds 14 ounces and 18 inches long. I developed preeclampsia at about 7 months, the 1st indicator being I had protein in my urine & high blood pressure. I also had swelling in my hands, face, and feet. I was 15 years old when I gave birth. And throughout my pregnancy, my doctor treated me exactly how I expected, like a child. I wasn... Read more

Update: 08/15/2002Since submitting my first story I have since had another baby and now another story or addition.I was told by my general practitioner that there was nothing to worry about with having another child. In fact she helped me get pregnant the second time. I still don't know why it was hard to get pregnant, I got pregnant the first time on the first try. Well the clomid worked and I saw anOB/GYN who assured me my worrying was unnecessary since it would be rare to ... Read more

I became pregnant with my first son when I was 18 and newly married, delivering a couple months after my 19th birthday. Due to the fact I had no insurance I went to a low cost clinic at a local hospital. I saw a resident on every other appointment and in between I saw the nurse practioner. At my 34-week appointment (I saw the nurse practioner) I pointed out to her that I was having some severe swelling and was very uncomfortable. She told me that was normal and advised me to continue everyth... Read more

I became pregnant with our 3rd child in Oct. of 2000 at the age of 38. This was a planned pregancy and I was in very good health. Our new babt was due July 20, ans our other 2 children were 6 and 9 at the time. I had an uneventful pregnancy with the exception of an early onset of very painful vericose veins in the right leg. I turned 39 in March of 2001 and was still feeling well with the exception of the veins. By April, I began experiencing swelling in my ankles and feet, and... Read more

My experience with preeclampsia was the most severe case called HELLP Syndrome. I was 32 weeks pregnant when I just started not feeling right. I hurt all over especially in my upper stomach and stayed up crying for two nights. Finally I called the labor and delivery and they insisted I come in to get checked out. Upon arrival my vital signs were checked including my blood pressure which came out as 199 over 120! They all thought the machine was broken and kept trying. One doctor came in an... Read more

My pregnancy with my daughter was beautiful until the last few weeks. I was one of those women who "glowed" during pregnancy.I am a great believer in natural therapies working in conjunction with modern medicine, so it was important for me to provide the best possible environment for my baby. I had the best vitamins recommended by a naturopath, I exercised every day and ate the best possible diet. I was primed for pregnancy and childbirth. All my preparation went out the window...... After 32 weeks of mood swings, nausea, vomiting, and acid reflux (other than that a pretty uneventful pregnancy), Nathan (my husband), Charity (my best girlfriend) and I went in for a routine visit and found that my blood pressure- which had consistently been around 110/70- had jumped to 140 over somewhere in the 90's. In addition, I was spilling protein in my urine. And, the horrible swelling in my feet and later hands had also moved to my face (of course I didn't realize this because I see... Read more

I had Preeclampsia while pregnant with my oldest son, who is now 18. He has Autism, Tourettes syndrome, and Obsessive compulsive Disorder. I never gave much thought to the connection between the preeclampsia and the disabilities, as there is Autism in my family. Now I wonder. It doesn't look as though treatment has changed much for Preeclampsia. When I look back now, though, there are things I s... Read more

Posted On Thursday, August 08, 2002  by Tracey

I had a beautiful pregnancy with my first daughter in 1997 up until I reached 28 weeks. I started to have abdominal cramps and felt like I was in preterm labor. I called my midwife and she asked me to come in for monitoring. They weren't picking up any contractions and she sent me home with a diagnosis of false labor. Less than a week later, I went to the hospital where my doctor's office was located with my mucus plug in a sandwich bag. I was having contractions every five minutes and w... Read more

I was pregnant with my thrird child after being told not to have any more kids. My doctor said that it might happen, my preeclampsia would come back. With my past two pregnancies I was border-line. And lucky my other two weren't born early enough to cause any problems. I was in my 26th week of pregnancy when I discovered that my high blood pressure was back. I went to the hospital anbd the only thing that was wrong was my high blood pressure. No protein or headaches or blurred... Read more

My story with preeclampsia is very long, so I will try to keep it as short as possible. Even though, I had preeclampsia 12 years ago, the pain of it all will be forever fresh in my mind. When I was 21 years old, my husband and I became pregnant with out first pregnancy. But my pregnancy was troubled right from the start. I began to get sick to my stomach at a week after conception, thinking I had the stomach flu. I soon found out I was pregnant, and thought that my morning sickness was normal... Read more

During my pregnancy, I had several "signs" of pre-eclampsia, but my doctor ignored ALL of them. I had upper right abodomen pain the last 3 months of my pregnancy. I had an extreme weight loss in one week of 10 pounds, and then the following week I gained 8 pounds. My husband noticed pitting edema during my delivery, and I also had numerous headaches throughout my pregnancy. My healthy baby was born in September 2001. I was 38 years old & I carried her full term. She was my third girl... Read more
