On Valentines Day 2003 my husband and I discovered that we were expecting our second child. We were thrilled, but our joy was tempered with concern, as our 2-year-old daughter had been born at 35 weeks due to complications of Preeclampsia and HELLP Syndrome. As it turned out, the two pregnancies were a study in contrast. While my first pregnancy had been relatively easy up until the final weeks, this time around I felt terrible almost from the beginning. I suffered from nausea, dizziness, and fatigue for the first trimester. When I reached the second trimester, I was still tired all the time, I got an itchy, red rash over most of my body, and I began suffering from hemorrhoids.... Read More

Hi my name is Kelli Magruder and I am the mother of a healthy 2 year old named Delaney. Although she is the joy of my life, it took alot of hard work to get her here. I had complications from the beginning, but my doctor never really considered anything was wrong. I had high blood pressure from the very start of my pregnancy, and hospitilaized from my second month, all the way through to my fifth month of pregnancy from extreme nausea and vomiting. I couldnt keep anything down. When I say anything, that includes all liquids, even water. I lost an extreme amount of weight and feared that I would lose my daughter. At my sixth month we had moved to Georgia, and the doctor that saw... Read More

I was 21 years old and looking forward to the birth of my first child...a girl! This is my story. My first 2 trimesters were uneventful, really. I had no morning sickness and average weight gain. The beginning of the third trimester, I started to notice swelling in my face and hands. Soon after the swelling started, I noticed some intermittent numbness and tingling in my fingers. I notified the doctor of this swelling and numbness at my 6 month appointment. I was visibly swollen and had 3 months to go. But, my blood pressure was in the normal range so the doctors werent worried. The numbness and pain were attributed (by the MD's) to carpel tunnel syndrome. I continued with my... Read More

My pregnancy started out quite normally, I am told. It was my first pregnancy, so all I could do was rely on the stacks of pregnancy guides and the well-meaning intentions of others. I had persistent nausea that caused me to nibble on saltines all day long, which probably was the reason for a ten pound weight gain before the end of the first trimester. I was approximately 30 pounds overweight upon conception, but otherwise active and healthy. I was tired, and more emotionally fragile than usual. Still, by the end of the trimester, I had completed the babys room, told co-workers and friends about our pending new arrival, and had already dreamed of prom night for this precious child. I... I'd like to start by saying how happy I am that there is a site for us. Now with that said here's mine and Lola's story. I was told from the age of 18(Im 27 now)that I would not beable to get pregant due to having PCOS. That was enough to "kill"me right there;but I never gave up the faith and hope that one day I would prove my dr. wrong. Well;in 2000 I met and married the man of my dreams that I knew would be the father fo my child. We had some up's and downs when it came to talking about children(due to him not wanting any)but after a looong talk we finally agreded that if it happened then it happened. In Feb of 2001 I missed my period. that was it I just knew that we were... Read More

On the morning of April 11th 2002 I awoke at 6:00 A.M. with abdominal pain and was not sure whether or not I was in labor. I was expecting contractions and this pain was definitly not coming and going. I told my husband he better stay home because something was happening. I was confused with this pain this was my first baby. I was trying to time it like I had read and learned about in the birthing classes. Something was wrong. At around 8:00 A.M. I called my doctor's office and got the answering service. I explained my symptom (constant cramp for 2 hrs.) they talked to me like I was an idiot. I finally got in touch with the mid wife and explained my symptoms again to her. She asked me if... Read More

I don't even know where to begin my story. Today, October 25, 2003, was to be my son's due date. On February 12, 2003 I saw two pink lines - I thought for sure I was seeing things. My husband and I had been trying for a couple months but, I just couldn't believe it actually happened. The following day I went to the doctor and had it confirmed with a blood test and on Valentine's Day, I told my husband that he was a daddy. My pregnancy was so "easy" that I used to joke with people saying that, I won't believe there's anything in there until I see it. I never had morning sickness, was never really fatigued - I felt good. I was lucky enough not to be working so, I got to spend all... Read More

On Christmas Day, 2000, My husband and I found out that we were expecting our first child. We were due the middle of September! During the following months, I stayed active, watched my diet, and did everything I was supposed to do to ensure a healthy pregnancy and delivery. My job, however, was very high-stress and I could seldom take days off, and my husband was very busy trying to start his own business. After I left work in the evening, I would help him for a few hours each day and then all day on the weekends. It was a hectic pace. Still, the pregnancy went smoothly and I never really experienced any of the aches and pains common to pregnancy. It never crossed my mind that I could have... Read More

On May 9,2003 I went to see my Midwife for my now weekly prenatal check up. I had at that point had some elevated blood pressure but was reassured that it was nothing to be worried about. On the 9th I went feeling fine just a little fatigued like most pregnant women, the nurse took my blood pressure and from her face seemed concerned. She took me on back to a room to await my Midwife. The first thing my Midwife did when she came in the room was take my blood pressure again. She asked me to lie down and turn on my left side to see if that would make a difference. The Midwife began asking me about my vision and if I had been having headaches and other things that she hadnt normally asked... Read More

My first pregnancy was like a roller coaster ride. I spotted and was told to "hope for the best and pray". Luckily, it stopped and we saw a heartbeat. Then, I spent the next 4 months having trouble keeping food down. Things seemed to be settling down. At about 28 weeks, my blood pressure was slightly elevated, and there was a trace of protein. I was seeing one of the other doctors in the practice (they wanted you to meet all of them if possible). He said it was very early for preeclampsia. He had me come back in a week. Everything was normal again. On Friday at 31 weeks, my feet were tremendously swollen after teaching all day and then going to a movie. I remember... Read More

My story began I am sure similarly to that of other women. We found out we were pregnant and weren't trying, so it was more of a surprise. I am felt very lucky that we were able to be pregnant without help. I went through morning sickness (pretty badly) and other symptoms of pregnancy. Bloating, nauseous, had no real food cravings except for chocolate milk AND definite food aversions. Things got better around the 5th month. I went to a baby shower in my hometown (flew to get there) and felt a little odd and bloated. Spent the weekend with family and friends, had a great time as we found out we were having a little girl. Upon returning to my current town (where my husband was born and... Read More

I became pregnant when I was 19, in Dec.of 2002; my fiance and I were so happy! It was our first child, for both of us. I thought I'd have a normal pregnancy. And then the problems started... My mother refused to talk to me(for other reasons)just before our wedding; she never came. Just two months into my pregnancy, I had a threatened miscarriage, and was bleeding. I had to quit work and pretty much had to be in bed all the time. It was even harder because I couldn't talk to my mom; I felt so alone. My husband was and has always been there for me, but it wasn't the same. My husband didn't know what was wrong anymore than I did, and we were so scared we might lose our child. And then... I was married young when I was only 19. My husband and I decided to have a baby so at 20 years old I was pregnant with our first baby who we found out was a little girl. I had a pretty eventful pregnancy with dehydration from being so sick the first few month that I needed IV fluids. I had morning sickness until I was 7 months pregnant. When I was 26 weeks I started contracting. They stopped my contractions with medication three times and then at week 29 weeks I was put on bed rest. They monitored me by ultrasounds every two weeks. At my 32 week until my 36th week of pregnancy my blood pressure was slowly increasing and in 4 weeks time I had gained twenty pounds. At my ultrasound at... Read More

My wife Donna's pregnancy only seemed remarkable in its "apparent" ease. Despite being pregnant with twins, Donna exhibited few if any extraordinary characteristics of pregnancy up until shortly before delivery. Doctor visits routine; blood tests, blood pressure, urine samples, stress tests, all without incident. Donna continued to commute to work up until about 2 months before anticipated delivery. Around her 34th or 35th week, swelling of the feet, legs, hands and face became more apparent. But nothing alarming about this both we and her doctors thought, particularly considering pregnancy with twins. At about the 36th week, Donna developed what she characterized at the time as a... I have just come through - and am still going through- the most traumatic event

Posted On Wednesday, March 02, 2005 By

I have just come through - and am still going through- the most traumatic event of my life. I was 29 weeks pregnant, my last antenatal check up had shown no signs of anything being wrong, and apart from feeling tired, and having some Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, I felt OK. I was finishing buying items and equipment for our new baby, and was looking forward to getting nice and big. One day I went to my local chiropractor to find out about getting a back massage; I'd never been to him before, but had heard that he had special chairs that pregnant women could lie on and still comfortably receive treatment. A massage seemed a nice pampering thing to do. When I filled in my registration... Read More

Posted On Sunday, January 30, 2005 By

At 27 I was happy and healthy, working in advertising. The only thing I wanted now was a beautiful child. And so I fell pregnant. Pregnancy for me meant constant morning sickness, and many visits to the hospital to be re-hydrated intraveniously. I was 58kgs when my son was conceived, and by 5 months, had gained on a small 4 kgs. Due to work commitments, I postponed my 6th month check-up. I hadn't realized the jeopardy I placed myself or my child in by confusing my priorities. I truly believed the "sparkles" and shadowing I could see around everyone was a spiritual experience due to my pregnancy. I though all women experienced the extreme bloating, weight gain, and headaches,... Read More

I returned home from a service program in China on Monday, May 24th, 2004. On Thursday of that week I went to my ObGyn MD for a standard appointment. She said I had a little protein in my urine and my blood pressure was a little high (she was not concerned). A few days later, on Tuesday, June 1st 2004, I called my doctor's office, as I had not been feeling like myself over the Memorial Day weekend. My heart had been pounding more than normal for a month or so, but now I was feeling fatigue. I asked to have a blood draw to rule out preeclampsia. They asked me to go to the Labor and Delivery section of the hospital instead of my clinic, which is connected (I still am not sure why,... Read More

I was 18 and it was my first pregnancy. I had a completely healthy pregnancy until I was 7 months pregnit and went for my regular check up. My blood pressure was way high above normal and I had a very high amount of protien show up in my urine test. They sent me to bed-rest, only to get up to use the restroom. I was so scared that something bad was going to happen. They had me come back after one week to see how I was doing. They decided to go ahead and enduce my labor, THE NEXT DAY!!!!. By then I was completely freaked out. I was right at 38 weeks, so the baby was completely formed. I went in on friday at 6p.m. and my daughter was born on Sunday 7a.m. She had... Read More
