My husband & I found out we were expecting our first child together in July 2013, we were surprised yet thrilled. It was a great pregnancy until my 5th month of pregnancy, my husband started monitoring my blood pressure and there were times when it was elevated, I let my doctor know of the elevations, they said it wasn't running high in the office so they wasn't concerned about it, so another month went by with the same elevations until one day when I was almost 7 months, I awaken feeling sluggish & tired, just bad....so I went to the hospital to get checked on and low & behold, my blood pressure registered at 202/113 so they immediately admitted me, they put me on magnesium sulfate and told me I had severe preeclampsia & reverse end blood flow to the placenta and I would have to deliver within 24-48 hours & the chances of our baby surviving was slim to none, We were heartbroken, scared, nervous, etc all at the same time. They monitored my BP, protein in urine, ultrasounds daily, the next day, the ultrasound was much better so they kept me on a 24 hour watch, that lasted for 5 days, on the 5th day they seen a significant drop in my baby's heartbeat which caused some alarm along with my BP elevating again, they deemed an emergency c-section was to to be done ASAP so I delivered at 7 months & 2 days, A'Yaan was born weighing exactly 2 pounds. Unfortunately, due to his underdeveloped lungs, they never inflated, he never took a breath, his heart beated for less than an hour, his heart stopped in my arms. We felt so many emotions at one time, we were devastated to say the least, we had so many plans, hopes & dreams but those plans, hopes & dreams were cut short due to a condition that not enough is known about, still, there is no cure other than delivery, there's more to be done, more research, etc. MY baby's life never started because of this illness, I am willing to do whatever it takes to find a cure and more information on pre-eclampsia. Let's do this.
