Women who had preeclampsia during pregnancy have approximately double the risk of developing heart disease and stroke over the next 5 to 15 years. The brochure encourages women to talk with their health care providers and include their pregnancy history in their description of general risk factors for life-long heart disease, in accordance with new guidelines from the American Heart Association.
