Cody Mullins - Muncie, IN.

At the age of 20 I got pregnant. I didn't go to the doctor until I was about 3 months. When the doctor told me my due date, I was thrilled. It was around my belated mother's birthday. Every time I went to the doctor I had blood drawn and urine samples taken. I ended up having lots of protein in my urine causing me to do two 24 hour urine samples. Then my blood pressure was going up. I was only in my 22nd week. So, my doctor had me do my 2nd ultrasound to see if the baby was doing OK. I had to go to a different doctor for my ultrasounds. He said to me before he done the ultrasound that he would like to see me in 5 weeks. Then he started and said 2 weeks. Immediately after that he said admit her now. I started crying.

Finally, they told me what was going on. They told me that I would be in the hospital until I deliver my baby because I have preeclampsia. I had no clue what that was. We did get information about the condition, it helped a little. I knew that blood, food, and oxygen was not getting to my baby. It wasn't going to take long before my baby would be stillborn or taken from me premature.

I was in there for two days and working on my third night before the longest journey of my life began. It was at 2:45 a.m. when nurses invaded my room and rushed me down to surgery. Emergency C-Section. I was frightened. My whole body shook and I couldn't stop from saying sorry to everyone. Then I was out.

The nurses woke me up to a little girl only weighing 1lb. 5oz. and 12in. long born at 3:04 a.m. I was proud. I wanted to see her right away. She was rushed to the NICU, so it took a while. They took me into see her and I just wanted to cry. She was only a 23-24 weeker and still a fetus. She stayed in the hospital for about 3 months and two weeks. She will be one in two weeks and her dad and I couldn't be any prouder of her. She is truly a miracle.

So, after she was taken from me I was placed over in post partem. Over there the doctors were still worried about me. They took chest x-rays. After that I was moved back to labor and delivery to get a one on one care. I was serious. I was one step away from eclampsia, a seizer. I later went for a heart ultrasound because of the water gain. I had a small heart murmur and was sent back to post partem. Finally I did make it and so did my daughter.
