Beckie Baybeck - Michigan

Hello and God Bless to fellow Preeclampsia or Hellp Syndrom sufferers!

I was 37 weeks pregnant by the time I REALIZED something was wrong in my pregnancy. I knew something was wrong when my face was red every afternoon, and my hands were so swollen in the mornings that I could barely bend my fingers, but the doctors said it was normal pregnancy stuff.

At my normal 38 week checkup, the doctor realized my blood pressure was high, so he suggested inducing pregancy using pitocin in an I.V. Please note that he only suggested this, he did not highly recommend this. I decided I was tired of being pregnant and went along with his suggestion to induce (luckily!!!)

Well, needless to say, my son was born after 32 hours of very difficult labor and delivery, by the doctor putting a suction cup on his head to help get him out of my birth canal. Then, and only then, did my OB realize I had HELLP Syndrome and was deathly ill, because I complained of my splitting headache! When they checked me, my blood pressure was about 210/160! So of course they immediately put me on an IV of magnesiam sulfate.

I was then transferred by ambulance to University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (a teaching hospital). None of the doctors could offer me or my family any help, except to say I had HELLP Syndrome. After two blood transfusions and one dialysis treatment, I was able to see my son.

Eleven days after being induced, I was able to go home to my husband, who had been taking care of our newborn son for over a week! I was extremely ill for another 2 weeks at home, but grateful to be out of the hospital, since I could not sleep while in the hospital due to my anxiety of dying and my fear of being away from my son.

I would love to correspond with anyone who has had a similar experience. It was terrifying for me, and resulted in chronic anxiety, post tramatic stress disorder.

Cody is now a healthy 3 year old who I thank God for, but my husband and I are wanting another pregnancy/baby. I could sure use prayers, reassurance, and doctor recommendations for the Michigan area. Especially the tri-city, Michigan area of Midland, Bay City, Saginaw, Mt. Pleasant and Flint areas!

ANY AND ALL EMAILS WOULD BE ENCOURAGING AND WELCOMED!

Thank you and God Bless You ALL!

Beckie Baybeck
