Re: Sugar in urine-help, what CAN I eat???

My MFM's office had in-house dietitians/diabetes educators; maybe yours does as well? I failed the one-hour test, passed the three-hour test by two points on one blood draw, then passed the three-hour again when my doctor had me retake it. My BFF has PCOS and has pre-diabetes; she also developed GD ...

Re: Small Vent

Ugh, I don't think we former preeclamptics ;) can ever shake that nagging feeling that things are getting ready to go off the rails. I know I felt that way with my last two pregnancies until the day they were delivered. As trite as it sounds, I really had to look at each single day as an accomplishm...

Re: ? about amnios

Jean, the fetal lung maturity amnio really doesn't carry much risk. The amnios during early pregnancy are used for diagnostic purposes, and do carry a small risk of miscarriage due to the possibilty of breaking water prematurely or causing premature labor. I've had one with each pregnancy (flma), an...

Re: At what gestation are babies able to breastfeed?

In my experience, the first six weeks are the hardest because you're recovering, baby is eating a lot and eating slowly, and you'll be logging very few consecutive hours of sleep. That said, it gets SO much better after that. Oliver is nine months now, and he nurses (both sides) in 8-10 minutes a se...

Re: steroid shots and lung maturity

Typically speaking (with the caveat that hospital policy differs and patients' situations differ), most hospitals will schedule a repeat c-section at 39 weeks. I've had two 37 week deliveries, and both required an amnio. My MFM would've delivered at 39 weeks without an amnio. All that said, when you...

Re: At what gestation are babies able to breastfeed?

I would completely agree with what Caryn has said. Mine were all 36-7 weekers. Oliver was the easiest, but I think having a learning curve helped. He had a great latch and seemed to know just what to do. He didn't have jaundice and was ALWAYS eager to nurse even in his earliest hours of life. He als...
