Re: Complications following possible HELLP

Still in ICU but my SIL has been able to see her baby with her in a wheelchair today. Baby is doing well still. My SIL is hoping to be out of ICU by the weekend and into a normal ward for the time being. Baby has dropped to 1.2kg which is to be expected - I think here they only release them at 2kg a...

Re: Complications following possible HELLP

They have dropped the dialysis now to 4 hours a day which means she has been able to get to her baby again. I think that and the transfusion definitely helps as she says she is feeling much better today.

Re: Complications following possible HELLP

Thanks - that is good to know - it is very trying. She had another blood transfusion yesterday and was sounding slightly brighter by evening. I don't know all the drugs she is on but everything is very up and down right now. Her husband is looking at increasing the medical aid policy (not sure if th...

Re: Complications following possible HELLP

My SIL is not doing so well today - it has been a week now since the baby was born and 10 days since she was first admitted to hospital. She had blood in her urine this morning and her heart rate was irregular. It is very hard to get medical information - I know the potassium was low and I know she ...

Re: Complications following possible HELLP

My SIL managed to hold her baby for the first time today - she said she had to persuade them to let her off the dialysis machine (it needed servicing anyway so it was a good excuse) and was wheeled on her bed (no wheelchair) to NICU where she held her baby for half an hour before returning to ICU. S...

Re: Complications following possible HELLP

My husband went to visit his sister for the first time today - she is still in ICU. Her husband had been trying to set up a baby monitor in the NICU and ICU so she could at least see her baby, but the distance is too far - have suggested they try skype from one room to another, but it is a bit dange...

Re: Complications following possible HELLP

My SIL is still in ICU and still having dialysis treatment. Her blood pressure is around 160/100 - her mother and father went to visit her and her blood pressure went up when they visited so now only her husband is visiting again. The doctor said this is the worst case of HELLP he had seen, but agai...

Re: Complications following possible HELLP

Further updates: Daddy got to hold his baby today for the first time. My SIL is still very sick, though feeling slightly better since the dialysis and was able to talk to her mother on the phone this morning.

Re: How long does a post C-section hurt?

I had a horizontal cut and it took about 4 weeks to heal that I felt ok - however there was some nerve damage there that took much longer to heal and I had tingling (like pins and needles) over that area for a few months (I am a type 1 diabetic which may have slowed healing too though). My first was...

Re: Complications following possible HELLP

Here is an update: my SIL was moved to ICU this morning and is on dialysis. She has also had a platelet transfusion. Things are not going well. I have had no news on the baby - he appears to be ok. We are trying to organise for my MIL to move in with my SIL's husband so that she will be closer to th...
