Well, it has been 8 months now since I had a NST/BPPs, but I seem to recall that it is *normal* for the heart rate to slow down as the pregnancy progresses. Hopefully, Caryn or someone else can confirm or correct me if I'm wrong, but I think newborns have much slower heart rates than a fetus, so a decrease during pregnancy is needed. My understanding is the Drs don't worry as long as it is in the *normal* range and they see the # of accelerations needed per hour.

With that said, I worried about any changes I saw with Aden's h/r, decels, weight gain, etc! I do remember in the first trimester his h/r was in the high 160-low 170s and drop to 140s-150s during the 2nd trimester. HTH.

Kendras heart rate was usually in the 120's-140's with excels into the 150's. It would even go 115 range for quite a while, one time she dipped too low and set an alarm off and they said it was bradychardia and did an ultrasound and said everything looked fine. She was buzzed quite a few times. I was always worried about her heart rate being low like that though and sure enough she was born with pulmonary hypertension. I think theres something to that. My sons lat few nsts showed him ALWAYS in the 117 range to about mid 120's and they always told me that was normal......but when he was born he needed syrfactant and a cpap........he also went into distress in labor.

Very true thanks! His HR did go from at the lowest 134 to 150's for the first ten mins or so then it was back to normal. I just never seen it do that before. Kinda freaked me out :?

sometimes they step or squeeze their cord and that can cause a decel in the HR. I have seen my babe do that too. the only time they worry is if it goes that low for 15seconds and a few times. then they need to check it out. the one time she did that they saw her cord was right under her foot when they checked the fluid, so it made sense. never happened again. but HR's flux. plus, if every mother was monitered as much as we are we it would all be seen! don't worry!

NST question

So I had my weekly BPP and NST, Carter passed BPP flying colors...on his NST his hr (which is always about 150-170's) for a bit was going 130's- 150's? Doc was not concerned. This was not my usual doc. Should I be concerned with that? He buzzed me a few times and gave me apple juice which I am not sure why cause baby was moving fine...but after that his HR stayed in the 160's the rest of the time?
