As long as your blood pressure stays okay today and no symptoms again, I'd probably wait and call first thing in the morning. It probably isn't pre-e this early but they may need to keep an eye on you for hypertension, etc.

How is your BP now? Regardless, I would go ahead and call your Dr and tell him what your readings have been. Let him make the decision as to whether you should be seen tonight or tomorrow. Even if it isn't PE, you could still have hypertension which needs to be monitored closely. BTW, when did you develop PE in your last pregnancy?

I laid down for an hour and took it again, and it's 140 / 85, which isn't great, but isn't making me worry as much as the 165 was. I'm going to give it a few more hours before making the final decision whether to call the doc.

Thank you so much for writing back so quickly! Have a great holiday!

Hello! You're right the official diagnostic criteria for PE is "after 20 weeks gestation", but we have had RARE members who have had the horrible distinction of getting sick before 20 weeks. Another possibility I can think of from what I've seen on the forums, completely not-a-doc, though, is that high blood pressure alone can cause symptoms like a bad headache. Again, I'm no doc, and I'd feel much better if you got an actual diagnosis from someone who is!

Even though it's Easter Weekend, there are doctors on call and nurses at L&D. In your shoes I would call, but I wouldn't automatically be afraid of PE at this point. Let us know what the medical folks say!

Hi, guys,

I'm 18 weeks along. I had severe PE in my first pregnancy. So far with this one, my BP has been normal (125/70). I have a home BP Monitor, and I check it once a week. This week, suddenly it's 140/80. That was Friday. Today, at Easter dinner with the in-laws, I had excruciating headaches. So I came home, laid down for a while, and took my BP again. It's 165 / 90. Should I call the doc? Wait it out? I'm only 18 weeks. Can PE start this early?
