I truly hope baby and mom are doing well.
It has been said that Michelle Duggar had PE in a prior pregnancy, though I'm not sure which one. I know they, as we all, have their strong religious beliefs and in no way would I want any family or baby to go through the NICU or PE...but..I truly hope they see this as a sign that they are very blessed and baby Josie shall be their last child. The next pregnancy may not end so well.

Wow Caryn. Looking at it like that kind of blows my mind.
Re : Michelle Duggar emergency c-section
It's often reported as rare. My guess is that 5% looks like a small number, until you remember that's 1 pregnancy in 20.
(Not one *woman* in twenty, but one *pregnancy* in twenty. Most women run the risk of PE multiple times in their lives. Can you imagine, if 1 in every twenty car trips resulted in an accident, someone calling a car accident "rare"?)

One more link. CNN now mentions PE too, but states that preeclampsia is a "rare condition."

I wouldn't call 1 in 12 pregnancies "rare"...

Wow...I have just heard of this. Keeping the Duggars in my thoughts and prayers. And yes...one rarely hears about PE in the news at all. Glad to hear Michelle is home from the hospital, and praying for their little girl in the NICU.

I know this is has been discussed in several threads already, but I just saw an update today on AOL news, and I think it's the first offical mention I've seen of preeclampsia in the news stories:

Re : Michelle Duggar emergency c-section
I had my gallbladder removed last year. My mom had hers removed a couple of years ago. She had 7 babies, and the doctor could not believe she kept her gallbladder after all those years. She said the more babies you have, the more problems you will likely have with your gallbladder.
Re : Michelle Duggar emergency c-section
My thoughts and prayers are with the Duggars. When People wrote it was gallstones, I had a sick feeling in my stomach. When I was in ICU and told them about my URQ pain, the first thing everyone said was it sounds like your Gallbladder. Well, then labs showed my liver & kidneys were out of whack! I wish the media would be more accurate.
I REALLY hope Michelle is okay! and baby too!

Re : Michelle Duggar emergency c-section
I had to have my gall bladder removed, but they actually found my Pre-e first. My gall bladder actually made it until almost a year after baby was born before one final attack took me over the edge. My Pre-e was post partum, and quickly moved to wards HELLP, though I have never gotten a formal diagnosis of hellp, and am pretty sure I never will. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and with the baby.... I pray all goes well.
