Bed rest with toddlers ideas

Postby cc » Mon Jan 28, 2013 11:57 am

Hi all. I'm 31 wks & things are looking fine but since I had pre-e with both previous kiddos I'm being realistic that it could be coming. Both times I was on bed rest at home by 35 wks, delivered at 37. We recently moved out of state & have no family here. We do have friends but they all have kids of their own. My ILs will come if I go on bed rest but it's a 24 hr drive & with them getting ready it would likely be close to a wk til they could get here. dh's job is flexible but he does have to travel some so he can't be here 24/7.

So, looking for ideas of things to do now to make life easier if it happens. I plan to make a bunch of Pb&j sandwiches & freeze then for easy meals and some other frozen meals to make for easy heat up (can always use once baby arrives too!) I'd love to make a snack station for easy snack access but that's not feasible with my dogs bc they'd eat it - ha. Playing on the floor would be easy enough. The oldest is almost 4 & potty trained & very helpful; youngest is almost 2 and pretty independent as well although still in diapers.

Any other ideas you've used to make that time easier for all? (obviously hoping for the best but I'd feel better having a plan)

Maybe do some activities that evolve you resting.

Drawing
Play dough
Sticking
Reading
Some favourite films

I too have a 2 year old who is very active, and ha severe PE, eclampsia and HELLP in my pregnancy with him but I am only 8 weeks gone so far still trying to rest as much as I can though.

Hope that helps

LOT OF TV/MOVIES! They will survive. LOL! My oldest was not quite 4 and my other was 2.5 (and not PT yet) when I started bedrest with #3. Have easily accessible snacks that the 4 year old can get (maybe up on the counter & have a small step stool so the dogs can't reach it) and let your husband worry about cleaning up crumbs/mess when he gets home. Color Wonder markers and Aqua Doodle so they can just color, do art right in bed with you without making a mess.

If you're already to 31 weeks without bedrest that's great!! Hoping you have many more weeks of baby baking time.

Thanks! Great ideas. I def need to get more Color Wonders - they love those & it's mess free! Great thought. It does seem as though I'm headed in that direction (went to L&D last week - boo!) so getting things ready now will be easier for everyone :)
