Preeclampsia Awareness Event
Changing Lives Forever: The Experience of Preeclampsia
When: Saturday, November 10, 10 AM
Where: Thompson Auditorium, Iowa Health Conference & Learning Center,
1415 Woodland, Des Moines, Iowa
(Located on ground floor entrance of Iowa Methodist parking ramp)
Hosts for the event will be Christine Hayes from the Blood Center of Iowa, and John and Brenda Warner from Davenport. The Warner’s daughter Shelly, 25 years young, passed away in January 2005 from complications of preeclampsia/HELLP syndrome after the birth of her daughter, the Warner’s first grandchild. John is a current board member with the Preeclampsia Foundation.
Featured speakers for the event will be Dr. Paula Mahone, OB/GYN, and Lauren Larsen, M.B.A.
Dr. Mahone is a highly-respected OB/GYN in the Des Moines area. She has been the Medical Director of Perinatal Services at IMMC since 1993. Dr. Mahone is board certified in general obstetrics, gynecology, and perinatal medicine. One of Dr. Mahone’s career highlights is the delivery of the McCaughey septuplets in November 1997.
Lauren Ward Larsen is a former marathon runner, and a preeclampsia survivor. With educational funding from Johnson & Johnson, Lauren travels across the U.S., speaking about the importance of volunteer blood donation. During Lauren’s near-fatal experience with preeclampsia, she required nearly 200 units of various blood products. Her story is very powerful.
Also attending representing the Preeclampsia Foundation will be Thomas Viall, recently appointed Executive Director, and Jaime Nolan, Director of Operations.
There will also be a silent auction during this event. All funds raised go to the Preeclampsia Foundation for educational awareness.
This event is open to the public. There is no cost to attend. Refreshments provided.
