The Little Rainbow Who Could

My husband and I struggled with infertility and pregnancy loss for years until I finally got pregnant with our sweet rainbow boy in April 2023. Pregnancy after infertility and loss is challenging, and became even more so when I was diagnosed with gestational hypertension at 21 weeks. Even with my weekly MFM appointments starting at 30 weeks, I was in and out of L&D for tox checks weekly. My pressure would spike, I would go in, my labs would be fine and pressure would normalize, and back home I would go. Then, a 2 week long headache started. My MFM was concerned, but my labs were still always fine. I was finally admitted at 34+5 for shortness of breath, and my son was born via urgent c-section due to low amniotic fluid and pre-eclampsia at 35+1. The medication I was on to manage my gestational hypertension was masking some of the severe features of my pre-eclampsia, and it wasn’t until after delivery that I received my pre-e diagnosis. If it wasn’t for my MFM and OB advocating for and educating us every step of the way, I’m not sure where we’d be today,
