I was diagnosed with postpartum pre eclampsia, I was on the border of pre eclampsia before birth that went into full swing once I went into labor. I had previously went to the ER 3 times during pregnancy for symptoms, but was sent home each time, as they brushed it off due to my history of chronic migranes. Once at the hosptial, I had an allergic reaction to beta iodine that they used when placing a cath after I got an epidural. I was shaking uncontrollably and told them something is WRONG, I went into shock - this plummeted both our heart rates and led to an Emergency C Section. Ash wasn't breathing and had to be put on a c pap but was able to bounce back in 2 hours and was breathing on his own again. I was the last to see him as family was showing me photos of him in the nursery, he was born at 6:26pm on Monday and I finally got to hold my son at 12:15am.
I received 2 blood transfusions and was sent home on Thursday to go back in 8 hours later, due to chest pains - I then was placed on a mag drip for 24 hours and lots of meds - finally being discharged on Saturday. It was a terrifying experience, one that I was honestly scared I wouldn't make it home, I just kept telling myself over and over, your not gonna die! And pictured my baby's face while having to spend days away from him. I am very thankful to have had family around as my mom took care of him while I was in the hospital and said that he would look around when he heard my voice on speaker phone.
Im still on high blood pressure meds and trying to regain stamina back, I'm so thankful we came out on the other side and are much better. I hope my story helps as just because someone may have a chronic condition before pregnancy does not mean they should be DISMISSED, I did the right things and was still turned away.
My perfect daughter, Katie, gave birth to her first child just eight days before she passed away due to postpartum complications. Her deliver...
