The Miracle Of Kaylee

Before my last daughter, Kaylee was born I had never heard of preeclampsia. I had 3 children already that I had relatively normal and healthy pregnancies with. Then I met my current husband and found out we were pregnant after 3 months. That pregnancy ended in a miscarriage after 10 weeks. Pregnancy # 2 five months later ended again in a miscarriage after 7 weeks due to low potassium levels. At this point we were told that our DNA's were not compatible to produce a baby, so we settle on that fact. The next year I begin a job as a Reunification Case Manager and within a month after learned that I again was pregnant. Of course hesitation and concern were at the forefront of our minds but we were also filled with hope and prayer and our Doctor was more than ready to assist. Early on I was prescribed Progesterone and a low dose baby aspirin in hopes of offsetting another loss and it was working. Week 7 and 10 passed and onto week 12 so we began feeling more and more hopeful.

We had DNA testing done which also seperated my blood from the baby's to give us the gender which was sealed. Work began getting hectic and I began experiencing nose bleeds along with high blood pressure. My doctor being concerned sent me to a maternal specialist as a possible high risk as I was also 43 at the time. The nose bleeds were chalked up to the weather as it was cold at that time of year. Nothing was to prepare us for what was to come.

One afternoon I experienced a horrible pain in my upper right side and decided to call the doctor. At that point in the pregnancy I was between 20-24 weeks and it was determined that I had high levels of protein in my urine. AT 24 weeks I was admitted into the hospital prepared to deliver a baby just over 1 pound, but after magnesium treatments and steroids everything ceased and I was released. At 27 weeks another round of urine test were done and this time I was called back to the hospital to deliver. At the hospital I started losing platelets and began passing blood clots from my nose. After the 3rd day in and 3 rounds of platelets I was wheeled in for an emergency C-section with no assurance that either of us were going to survive. God had other plans, you see that Sunday was Easter Sunday. Both of us survived and she spent 97 days in the NICU. Our precious miracle and double rainbow baby was finally here. She is now 7 with no health issues and we are forever blessed.
