My entire pregnancy, everything was fine. My check ups were consistently positive with no concerns from my OB; she even delayed seeing me because she was so confident things were going well. I always felt supported by our OB team. “Everything is great” quickly changed to significant concerns at our 36-week checkup. My BP was over 140 and quickly rose to 150s and 160s during non-stress testing that day and the following. I was given a steroid shot that night and told not to go to work the following day and come back for another check-in and second steroid shot 24 hours later. We came back to do those things, were sent to have supper, and were told they’d call if my labs were concerning. They called an hour later and said we’d need to be induced that night. We were told my diagnosis was severe preeclampsia due to BP and protein levels in urine. I’ll never forget the look of concern and tone of seriousness on our nurse’s face. Our daughter was born the next night (approx. 48 hours since learning of pre-e). She struggled with low oxygen and low blood sugars her first night. My husband and I are so grateful for our OB team and our daughter’s care team for getting us through it safely with so much love and support.
