Back-to-Back Preeclampsia

Back-to-Back Preeclampsia

My first baby was born in April of 2021 at 38 weeks 3 days. I had gone to my normal 38 week appointment and my blood pressure was 175/88, so I was sent directly to the hospital. My blood pressure was trending down; however my daughter's heart rate was all over and the decision to deliver her was made. I was diagnosed with preeclampsia and rushed into an emergency C-section. My daughter is now a healthy 21 month old.

I then became pregnant again in 2022 and as I had previously been diagnosed with preeclampsia in my first pregnancy, I was placed on baby aspirin daily to hopefully reduce my risk of getting it a second time. However, at 34 weeks I was diagnosed with preeclampsia again and my scheduled repeat c section was moved up to 37 weeks 2 days. After 34 weeks (which was my visit first to the hospital for monitoring) I had a second trip to the hospital, but I was able to make it to 37 weeks and 2 days to deliver my son via planned repeat C-section on 12/12/2022. He is now a healthy 8 week old.

After my son was born I was diagnosed with postpartum hypertension and had some very high blood pressure readings and frequent doctors appointments for blood pressure checks. I was placed on a blood pressure medication and had to check my blood pressure twice a day and log it. At this time it appears my blood pressure is hopefully back to normal prior-to-pregnancy readings. I have also developed white coat syndrome as a result of my first preeclampsia diagnosis and now anytime I go to the doctors my blood pressure is higher than when I take it at home or even prior to my first pregnancy as I had always had great readings prior to pregnancy.
