During my first pregnancy I acquired preeclampsia and postpartum eclampsia. I had never heard of the complication before so I was unaware that I was experiencing side effects. I was 36 weeks pregnant when I experienced rapid weight gain, swelling of my face and extremities, and extremely high blood pressure. I went in for my weekly check up and was informed that I had preeclampsia. The doctor immediately rushed me to L&D and had me induced to prevent seizures, brain bleeds, or any other complications. I was put on a magnesium drip for 72 hours as well as blood pressure medication. The nurses struggled to get my pressures stable so I was stuck in the hospital for 2 weeks. I was discharged on blood pressure medication and my pressures returned back to normal by 4 months postpartum. This was by far one of the scariest things I’ve experienced. I am so blessed that my son and I made it out of the hospital safely and healthy.
