"Your Postpartum Preeclampsia Is Just Plain Rude"

I was going in for NSTs twice weekly for my GDM. My BP had been fine. At about 34 or 35 weeks, I started getting headaches. Nothing major, but they were annoying. My BP was still okay. At my last few NSTs, I let them know about headaches, and my team kept a close eye. My BP had creeped up some, but not enough to be preeclampsia. Checked my labs, they were good. My OB decided to induce me at 37 weeks. Labor went well, baby boy was healthy, my BPs were fine and we went home on Sunday. I was only home for about 4 hours when I felt off. Nothing hurt but I just felt indescribably not right. Checked my BP. 160/100. Panicked a bit. Waited a few, checked other arm. 162/96 and started having some chest pain. To the ER I went, told them I was postpartum and worried. They didnt seem as concerned as I did. Thankfully, my OB found out I was down there and came down, saw my BPs and took over and had me admitted for a mag drip and ordered a heart echo. Fast forward, I was stable by Tuesday my BPs had been ok after drip, no need to be put on medication. Went home that afternoon. I felt bad suddenly within 2 hours, impending doom feeling. BP check: 190/100. My husband high tailed it to the ER. BP got up to 215/102. My troponin was elevated, but no heart attack, just my heart working too hard. Took a while to get controlled in ER. Chest felt so tight and hurt, head felt like was going to explode. I thought I was going to die and not make it home to my babies and husband. OB had ER transport me to bigger hospital with OB specialists. Became stable on a BP med, finally got discharged home that Friday and got to stay home, one week after I delivered my son. The specialist OB said "Your preeclampsia is being just plain rude." I am still on BP med, following up with a cardiologist, but doing better. Always listen to your body and advocate for yourself. My health anxiety has been truly terrible at times, but I'm still here and it's because I listened to myself, my OB listened to me, and I advocated when others didn't listen.
