I Never Thought It Would Happen To Me

I Never Thought It Would Happen To Me

I always knew about preeclampsia, but I never thought it would happen to me. My pregnancy had been extremely normal and healthy. That all changed around 33 weeks. I had a small fall, and wasn’t sure what to do so I called my OB, and they insisted I get checked out at the local hospital. That fall may have saved me and my baby.

At the hospital they realized my blood pressure was high, they kept me a bit for monitoring and sent me home with meds. I had to be monitored frequently after that, a few days later at a routine NST my blood pressure was 185/110. I was then admitted to the local hospital where I learned it wasn’t safe to continue my pregnancy. They hooked me up to the magnesium drip and gave me steroid shots for my babies lungs. As soon as morning came they transferred me to a bigger hospital that could provide NICU care. I was immediately induced and delivered my sweet baby boy at 34 weeks. It was utterly devastating giving birth, and having my baby taken from me to be rushed to NICU. I’m grateful for the swift care me and my baby received, otherwise we might not be here snuggling today. My baby spent 3 weeks in the nicu, which was amazing considering he was born at 3lbs. I also spent a week on a high risk floor. We are so grateful to be home now, and thank our medical team for that!

My husband was my rock and was the one who suggested I get checked out after my fall. Had he not suggested that, I might not be here today. My husband was the most supportive and helpful person during the whole experience and I couldn’t have made it through the pregnancy, traumatic delivery, or the time we spent in the NICU without him.
