My Preeclampsia Story

My Preeclampsia Story

My story began around 22 weeks I started noticing a lot of swelling in my ankles when I was more active… my Symptoms became increasingly worse, as weeks went on. Significant swelling of my feet and ankles, headaches severe reflux, but I was told these were just “normal pregnancy symptoms” by my Doctor, “preeclampsia wasn’t a concern bc my BP was normal the day of my appointments. The day I was admitted I had a high risk appointment… My BP was 220/170, they told me to go straight to Labor and delivery. They were able to eventually get my BP down and get me stable enough to get to a hospital with a higher level NICU. I received both steroid shots and had a C-section 3 days later at 29 weeks. My baby spent 55 days in the NICU, and I spent a week in the hospital. I was discharged on Xmas day without my baby. Now she is a healthy energetic 4 year old who is thriving. I was told preeclampsia probably wouldn’t happen again, but at this point we haven’t had anymore children.
