When Turning In A Sample Became A 4 Month Journey

At 32 weeks pregnant with my first child, I was rushed to a hospital 45 minutes away in an ambulance. I went to my OB’s office to turn in a urine sample where they took my blood pressure. My numbers were extremely high & I had an exaggerated amount of protein in my urine. Next thing I know, I am being hooked up to IV’s & wheeled into an ambulance.

Over the next 3 weeks I was bedridden in the hospital. The only thing stabilizing my blood pressure was multiple oral medications 5 times a day & IV medication. I can still hear the alarm of the blood pressure cuff sounding. The goal was to get me to 34 weeks pregnant then begin induction. I reached that goal, but 2 days into the induction process, everything changed.
On that summer day, 15 nurses ran into my room. Baby was not tolerating the induction. Her heart rate tanked to 40 BPM. 6 minutes later, she was born. After that ordeal, we had a 54 day nicu stay.

I am forever thankful that my nurses caught her heart rate tanking. Life would be different if not.
Preeclampsia turned the most special moments of my life into terror.
